Watch is a common portable mechanical or electronic or a mixture device for monitoring the time spans that someone can wear or carry with it in a handy manner. This may be a wrist watch that anyone can wear wrapping around its wrist or may be a pocket watch, which often have covers and can be carried in a pocket and are attached to a watch chain or watch fob.
All the watches need energy for their work. The energy may be provided by some small electronic battery or by a small stretched round compression spring in a mechanical way. The energy may be consumed in the work of the watch which may be enabled either by electronic devices in it or by its mechanically moving parts.
Watches can come in different types of displays. The watches which are completely electronic usually come with electronic display that shows the time in decimal digits on it with a blinking colon punctuation mark dividing the digits of minutes from the digits of hours. These watches may also have digits to show the seconds. Such watches would have another blinking colon mark to separate the minute digits from those of seconds. These watches have two digits for hours, two digits for minutes and two digits for seconds, in three different sections separated by colon marks. There are also available many other electronic watches that may provide many other displaying features like alarm time, date, month, year, day, complete calendar with memo notes and reminder, and many other things too. The cost varies with features, quality, and the brand of the watch.

Mechanical watches are usually less accurate as compared to the electronic watches. The errors may be as high as few seconds per day. They are also costly to produce, require regular maintenance and adjustment, and are more prone to failure. One may ask, if the mechanical watches are costly, complex, and not much accurate too, why someone will take it. The major and a strong reason is it look and feel. The “old world” craftsmanship of mechanical watches still attracts interest from part of the watch buying public. Many people buy a watch not for precise time but to show off their life style.
Apart from the types of electronic watches and the great looking mechanical watches, there is another, and perhaps the most famous and common category of watches which work on the basis of “Quartz Movements” and are famous with the name of “Quartz Watches”. These watches are in fact a combination of the electronically and mechanically moving parts to provide precise time and also bring to the buyer the life style with the look and feel of the mechanical watches with great craftsmanship.
